Letters: Call it marital free-agency
STATE SEN. Daylin Leach makes a passionate plea in his Nov. 10 op-ed for gay marriage as a basic right, and that gays should be able to join the " 'til death do us part" crowd.
Let's see . . . 50 percent of heterosexual marriages end in divorce, with a higher percentage of second marriages ending the same way. Early returns suggest gay divorces would occur at an even higher rate.
What we should be voting on is whether to eliminate marriage and replace it with five-year mutually renewable contracts. Unless you're hung up on that obviously flawed "religious thing," it would make more sense. And gays should participate as well.
