Letters: Carl Greene's PHA bonus
I worked closely with Carl when I was chairman of the Redevelopment Authority board.
Simply put, Carl knows how to get things done. Since arriving from Detroit 12 years ago, he's turned the PHA from a troubled agency into one of the nation's most progressive. PHA is now the biggest landlord in the state, housing 84,000 people in Philadelphia alone. Carl has replaced dilapidated housing "warehouses" with lauded developments like the Richard Allen Homes in North Philadelphia, Schuylkill Falls in East Falls, and Tasker Homes in South Philly.
These state-of-the-art public housing communities have restored people's sense of pride and dignity, and beautified once forgotten neighborhoods.
When Carl's record of success in securing federal dollars to transform public housing in Philadelphia is stacked up against the bloated salaries and limited results of some of the highly touted academics the city has recruited, it's evident that Carl is worth every penny he is paid.

I think Mr. Greene should decline the bonus because of the shape this economy is in.
It's a disgrace that he's getting a bonus approved by ex-Mayor Street while the little people struggling to make ends meet are denied a raise because of the economy.
The PHA should be ashamed for even considering such a bonus when the city doesn't have enough books for our students to take home.
He may deserve it, but teachers deserve a raise, too. I'm a concerned grandparent who supports quality education for our students. You are giving a bonus to a person who makes a six-figure salary, yet other people are struggling to survive living on a meager paycheck.
