Letters: Police killed vs. playoff wins

YESTERDAY, the Phightin' Phils were trying to win a postseason game for the first time in 15 years. But, more seriously, let's put put present-day Philadelphia into proper perspective with this question: How horrible and pathetic has the City of Brotherly Love become when the number of playoff victories for the baseball team during a period of 15 years is three FEWER than the number of funerals for Philly police officers who were murdered in the line of duty in this year, 2008?

When the family and friends of Daniel Giddings, the killer of Officer McDonald, were ranting about "He was a Muslim!" and "They killed him!," they left out that "He was a convicted criminal who was just paroled from prison after 10 years, running around with a gun, fleeing from police, who just murdered a police officer Muslim and they killed him."

Have a little respect for the law-abiding Muslims out there.

Fossilus McCainus

I can't believe Sen. McCain refuses to learn how to use a computer. For someone who does not want to appear out of touch, he seems to be going out of his way to be out of touch. My 70-year-old mother can upload photos from her camera, check and forward e-mail and surf the Internet with no problem.

I work in an assisted-living facility and our oldest resident is 104. She started checking out the Internet years ago.

Three-year-olds go online. The computer has become a household appliance for a vast majority of Americans. How is this guy going to bring change? By shunning technology? And if anyone is wondering if Gov. Palin believes in dinosaurs, I think the answer is yes. She's the running mate of an Ignoramusaurus rex.
