Sister Irene Elizabeth Riley, 86, teacher
She taught at Our Mother of Good Counsel School in Bryn Mawr from 1942 to 1943; Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Havertown, 1943 to 1946; Waldron Academy in Merion, 1946 to 1947; Walsingham Academy, Williamsburg, Va., 1953 to 1963; and St. Denis in Havertown, 1963 to 1972.
She entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1939 and professed her vows in 1942. She received a diploma in nursing from the former Misericordia Hospital in June 1950.
She served as a parish visitor at St. Thomas Villanova Parish in Rosemont from 1974 to 1989. That year she moved to McAuley Convent, where she was an assistant in the prayer guild.
She was born in Philadelphia to Joseph A. Riley and the former Irene E. Carroll. She is survived by three nieces.
Services: Funeral Mass, 7 this evening at Sisters of Mercy Convent, 515 Montgomery Ave. Friends may call at 6 p.m. Burial will be in the Sisters of Mercy Convent Cemetery. *
