Feds: Suspect was on our radar

WASHINGTON - Federal law-enforcement officials say the suspected Fort Hood gunman had come to their attention at least six months ago because of Internet postings that discussed suicide bombings and other threats.

The officials say the postings appeared to have been made by Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, 39, who is accused in the rampage that the army says left at least 12 people dead and 31 wounded. Officials say they are still trying to confirm that he was the author of the postings.

One of the Web postings that authorities reviewed is a blog that equates suicide bombers with a soldier throwing himself on a grenade to save the lives of his comrades.

Military officials say Hasan was a psychiatrist at Walter Reed Army Medical Center for six years before being transferred to Fort Hood in July.

The Virginia-born soldier is single with no children. He was graduated from Virginia Tech, where he was a member of the ROTC and earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry in 1997.

He received his medical degree from the military's Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md., in 2001.

Last reports indicate that Hasan is "under guard in stable condition" at Fort Hood.

Was that before or AFTER Hassan was promoted from his entry-level rank of captain to Major, USArmy? Army grade promotions are supposed to be more intensive than pay grade or, for that matter, 2nd lieutenant to 1st LT, or Lieutenant to Captain. Besides his anti-American rants, this guy was a bad doc. Maybe the armed services need to review their 10 point program and put things into perspective. When you wobble like a duck, quack like a duck and swim like a duck, the odds are, you're a freakin' duck! Heads should roll (no pun intended).

Was that before or AFTER Hassan was promoted from his entry level rank of Captain to Major. Army grade promotion standards are supposed to be more intensively applied than pay-grade and, for that matter, 2nd LT to 1st LT or 1LT to Captain. Besides his history of anti-American rants, the dude was also a lousy doc. Maybe the Armed Services need to re-visit their Ten Point program and not be so conscious and worried of offending particular groups and/ or minorities. This incident is too reminiscent of the Virginia Tech student terrorist whose mental instability and internet threats were taken lightly. When you wobble like a duck, quack like a duck and swim like a duck, you're probably a freakin' duck! There are a number of heads that should roll( no pun intended).
