Man held in baseball-bat attack

GORDONVILLE, Pa. - A Lancaster County man has been charged with using a baseball bat to beat his girlfriend while she slept.

State police say that he choked her unconscious and trapped her in a bedroom for hours before she could escape from their home in Gordonville, a village an hour's drive west of Philadelphia.

Trooper Samuel Laureto said that the woman was hit in the head and arm Saturday morning and suffered a broken elbow in an unprovoked attack.

Police said that when the man left, the woman went to a neighbor's house to call for help. She told police that the man smoked crack cocaine while assaulting her.
