Pa. man accused of killing lover, son, 2

ROCHESTER, N.H. - A New Hampshire gas-station clerk called police just to let them know he had given two men permission to sleep in their SUV in his parking lot for the night.

Police checked the license anyway, and eventually arrested a Pennsylvania man accused of killing his girlfriend and their 2-year-old son 24 hours earlier.

Michael Parrish, 23, had a loaded .357 semi automatic pistol tucked in the back of his pants when Somersworth police surrounded the vehicle around midnight Tuesday night and arrested him and a companion, Conrad Jankowski, 23, police said.

Both men told a judge on yesterday that they would not fight attempts to return them to Pennsylvania to face charges. Pennsylvania police were en route to New Hampshire.

Parrish, a corrections officer at the Monroe County jail, is accused of killing 21-year-old Victoria Adams and 2-year-old Sidney Parrish Monday night in the northeastern part of the state. Jankowski is charged with helping him flee.

Somersworth police say the gas station clerk called to tell them the men reported their vehicle had broken down and that they would have it removed after sleeping in it for the night.

When a dispatcher ran the license, police learned the vehicle was involved in a felony and that the occupants were armed and dangerous.

Officers went to the scene, fearing the men would leave, and surrounded the vehicle while others at headquarters contacted Pennsylvania authorities for more information.

The men got out of their vehicle Ford Bronco and were taken into custody without incident. Police said that in addition to the loaded weapon, Parrish had two loaded ammunition clips in his pockets.

Pennsylvania State Police say Parrish killed Adams and the toddler at the home they shared in Chestnuthill Township, Pa., about 65 miles north of Philadelphia.

About 11 p.m., a friend dropped off Adams and her son at the second-floor apartment, according to Sgt. Brian Tobin. Parrish pointed a gun at the friend who dropped them off and shut the door, Tobin said.

The friend, James Ahern, 21, reported hearing two gunshots. As Ahern and several other men tried to return, Parrish fired at them from the backdoor, Tobin said.

Troopers found Adams and her son dead of gunshot wounds.

Parrish is charged with two counts of criminal homicide, two counts of attempted homicide and one count of aggravated assault, police said.

Jankowski, of Newfoundland, Pa., is charged with hindering apprehension. *
