NEW YORK - Police discovered the dismembered body of a woman shoved into four heavy-duty plastic garbage bags in a bedroom after officers responded to an emergency call of a suicidal man at the Brooklyn apartment, the NYPD said yesterday.

When police arrived at the Coney Island home late Sunday night, they found the man, Saleh Al-Muwallad, 53, a livery cab driver, on the front stoop. He said that he had been drinking and that he had killed someone who was inside, said New York Police Department spokesman Paul Browne.

Police found the bags in the bedroom. One bag contained the woman's torso; another the arms, legs and one eye; the third, thighs; and the fourth, a head. The woman's face and mouth had also been carved up, police said. A knife was recovered at the scene, but it wasn't clear what had been used to hack up the woman's body.

Friends identified the victim as Jessica Guidicci, 27, The medical examiner will determine a cause of death.

It was unclear why Guidicci had been at the home. Police are investigating whether she had called him for a taxi ride and whether the man had flown into a jealous rage after hearing that Guidicci was seeing another man. Relatives of the girl told reporters that she had not been romantically linked to Al-Muwallad.

Al-Muwallad was taken for psychiatric evaluation and was arrested in the slaying. He was charged with second-degree murder and criminal weapons possession. *
