Funny-guy Bykofsky wins humor-writing award

We already knew that Daily News columnist Stu Bykofsky was a funny guy. But now it's official.

The National Society of Newspaper Columnists on Saturday awarded Bykofsky a first-place prize for humor-column writing at newspapers with circulations above 100,000.

"What makes this kind of a delicious win for me is that I only do a half a dozen humor columns each year," said Bykofsky, who joined the People Paper in 1972 and wrote a gossip column for 17 years before switching to a general-interest format in 2004.

Bykofsky received the honor at the society's annual meeting, held in Bloomington, Ind. He said the judges liked a 2009 column in which he had a conversation with God about the holiday season.

Asked if the prize would put more pressure on his routine at his upcoming comedy night for political candidates, Bykofsky laughed.

"There was no pressure until you mentioned it," he said. "I will survive the pressure. I will have to dig deeper into the Internet."
