Parade taking a new route

Parade taking a new route

Tomorrow's Thanksgiving Day Parade, sponsored by 6ABC and Ikea, will take a new route but will be filled with the same old balloons, bands, floats and fun.

And, of course, that indispensable ingredient - Santa Claus.

The parade will begin at 8:15 a.m. at 20th Street and JFK Boulevard, march down the boulevard to 16th Street, turn left onto Benjamin Franklin Parkway and proceed to the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The parade formerly started at City Hall.

The 6ABC grandstand will be located at Eakins Oval, in front of the art museum, where hosts Dave Roberts and Cecily Tynan, both Action News weather forecasters, will be stationed.

This will be Roberts' 31st and final Thanksgiving Day Parade. He is retiring next month.

Channel 6 will begin broadcasting the event at 9 a.m., with an 8:30 a.m. preview. The broadcast is expected to last three hours.
