Nutter names new aide

Mayor Nutter yesterday appointed Lewis Rosman, a senior attorney in the city Law Department, as his legislative-

affairs director. Nutter's previous legislative director, longtime aide Julia Chapman, resigned last week.

Rosman, a graduate of the University of Virginia Law School, is a senior attorney in the appeals and legislation unit of the Law Department. A Philadelphia native, he attended city public schools and graduated from Oberlin College. He will start Nov. 30 at a salary of $121,011.

School District's revised budget

The Philadelphia School District yesterday released a revised budget for the fiscal year 2009-10 that began July 1, showing an 11 percent increase over the previous year. Michael J. Masch, the district's chief budget officer said the revision was necessary because the state Legislature took so long to adopt its own budget for this fiscal year.

The district is projecting a budget of just over $3 billion, down from the $3.2 billion figure the School Reform Commission adopted in May.

RiverRink to open 16th season

The Delaware River Waterfront Corp. will present the 16th anniversary season of the Blue Cross RiverRink, on Columbus Boulevard at Market Street, at Penn's Landing, beginning tomorrow. Featuring an outdoor Olympic-size rink overlooking the Delaware River, and an indoor heated facility with a snack bar and game room, the RiverRink will open with free activities for the entire family.

Love of 'Twilight' fights cancer

When Jessica Crosby, 12, of Glen Mills, heard that Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation was offering a chance to see a private screening of the movie "Twilight: New Moon" for raising the most funds to fight childhood cancer, she got to work, raising more than $600 to win the contest. She and 49 friends are taking in the show today - before it hits the theaters.

Teacher admits affair with teen

A former Doylestown teacher has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from his months-long affair with a 17-year-old student.

Former Council Rock High School South math teacher Robert Hawkins, 43, pleaded guilty yesterday to a felony charge of endangering the welfare of children and the midemeanor of corruption of minors.

Bucks County Chief Deputy District Attorney Jennifer Schorn asked the 43-year-old Newtown man in court whether other teachers knew of the affair but did not report it as required by law. He refused to answer.
