Man fatally shot in S. Philly
An 18-year-old man was shot about 7:30 last night on 27th Street near Jackson in South Philadelphia, police said. The unidentified victim was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was pronounced dead at 7:50 p.m., police said.
Would-be robber turns & runs
The FBI and police are wondering why a man who came into the Bank of America, at 1841 E. Allegheny Ave., handed a demand note to a teller yesterday then took off empty-handed. Still, authorities want him for attempted robbery. He is described as thin, white,mid-30s with a closely cropped thin beard and mustache, wearing a black knit wool cap, dark sunglasses, a plaid flannel jacket or heavy lined shirt, and blue jeans. Anyone with information on the man's identity should call the FBI at 215-418-4000, or 9-1-1.
Dr. charged in oxycodone sales
A federal grand jury yesterday charged a Philadelphia doctor with illegally distributing oxycodone-based drugs between January 2008 and July 2009, by writing prescriptions for the drugs that weren't for a legitimate medical purpose. Oxycodone is the main ingredient in many painkillers and is often abused.
Authorities said that Ronald Brown, 60, of Sylvania Street near Wayne Avenue, in Germantown, wrote the scripts from an office that was within 1,000 feet of the DePaul Catholic School, on Logan Street near Germantown Avenue.
Hospital peeper photog sought
An unidentified man was seen yesterday attempting to snap photographs inside a women's restroom in Hahnemann University Hospital, police said. A woman inside a bathroom stall in an eighth-floor restroom noticed something at her feet, said police spokesman Lt. Frank Vanore. It was a camera lens pointed up in a man's hand, he said. When the suspect realized he was caught, he ran off. The man was described as light-skinned, black with short dreadlocks in a ponytail and wearing a dark-blue blazer, dark pants and black suede sneakers with a yellow stripe. Woman hit by wild bullet dies
Kathy Ann Stewart, 49, who was gravely injured by a stray bullet that pierced the wall of her mother's Chester home and struck her in the head while she was in bed Sunday, died at 5 a.m. yesterday in Crozer-Chester Medical Center. Stewart was at her ailing mother's home to take care of her. Police were looking for gunmen who fired at least a dozen shots near Union Street and Whittington Place.
Man killed in Camden lot
Elisha Shedrick, 25, of Camden, was shot dead about 6:30 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of the Northgate I apartment building in Camden about 6:30 p.m. Monday. Tipsters should call 856-225-8400.
