Suspect ID'd in shootings that killed 1, wounded 4 in W. Philly

Police have identified a 19-year-old man who they say is responsible for at least two drug-related shootings in West Philadelphia that killed one man and wounded four others and who may have been involved in two other homicides.

Darryl Young, also known by his nickname "D-Nice," is a "menace to society," Capt. James Clark, of the Homicide Unit, said yesterday at a news conference to announce arrest warrants in two of the incidents.

Police said Young is suspected of killing Kevin Hubbard, 19, and injuring another 19-year-old man in a shooting on Sept. 24 on 56th near Master Street.

Young is also suspected of wounding three men at the same location on Oct. 26.

Clark said that police believe that Young was involved in two other West Philadelphia homicides but declined to elaborate.

All of the incidents appear to be drug-related and followed a similar scenario in which Young walked up to men standing on the street and opened fire, Clark said.

"We are asking for the public's help in bringing this individual to justice," he said.

Young is described as 5 feet 6, about 160 pounds with short brown hair and brown eyes. He has several tattoos on his arms, including "RIP Fatz" on his right forearm.

Clark said Young's last known addresses were on Allison Street near Media and on 61st Street near Baltimore Avenue. Young is known to frequent the area near 56th Street and Lansdowne Avenue.

The U.S. Marshal's Service is offering $5,000 to anyone with information that will lead to Young's arrest. Tipsters can call 215-863-2732 or the Homicide Unit at 215-686-3334.
