S. Phila. man dies 2 weeks after being hit by van near ballpark
About an hour before the Phillies clinched their second straight trip to the World Series on Oct. 21, a handful of fans were knocking back beers in a parking lot across the street from Citizens Bank Park.
The gathering, inside the Jetro Lot, on Darien Street near Pattison Avenue, somehow turned into a physical altercation between two groups of men, police said.
When the fight ended, several of the participants piled into a white SUV.
The driver shifted the vehicle into reverse and struck Nick Medora, 42, who was standing nearby, said police spokesman Lt. Frank Vanore. Medora, of Randolph Street near Oregon Avenue, in South Philly, had been involved in the altercation, Vanore said.
The SUV sped from the scene, and Medora was admitted to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital with a broken arm, clavicle and ribs.
Following that night, Medora's condition deteriorated, and he died at Jefferson Hospital at 10:59 p.m. Wednesday, Vanore said.
Police are asking anyone with information on the SUV to call 215-685-3180.
