In an unusual turn of events Saturday morning, a prisoner escaped from the custody of Northeast Detectives and turned himself in - with handcuffs still attached - about 15 hours later.
Officers were taking the man, whose identity was not released, from the state police barracks to Northeast Detectives headquarters in an unmarked police car when the prisoner jumped from the back seat of the moving vehicle at Rhawn Street and Roosevelt Boulevard, police said.
The man fled west on Rhawn but later was contacted on the phone by detectives and agreed to turn himself in, police said.
He showed up about 8:25 p.m. at the detective headquarters, with the handcuffs he was wearing still attached to one wrist, police said.
