Cops: Delco robbery suspect was 'lucky'
And for that, he should be grateful.
Because, according to police, the man that Buzydlowski allegedly attempted to rob in Ridley Park in broad daylight usually keeps a .45-caliber handgun by his side - presumably for just these types of situations.
Luckily for Buzydlowski, the 56-year-old victim didn't have his piece with him during the August robbery.
"That guy would have shot him dead," said Ridley Park Police Sgt. Harold Snyder.
Buzydlowski, 33, of Ridley Park, was charged this month with robbery, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. The arrest was announced yesterday.
Police said that Buzydlowski had hid behind a parked truck and waited for his prey to come wheeling down the street, then pounced on him when he tried to cross the intersection.
"What he was trying to wrest from him was an iPod," Snyder said. "That's what he had in his hand."
The victim fought off Buzydlowski, who was then captured on a surveillance camera running down the middle of the street, Snyder said. Investigators eventually developed him as a suspect, and the victim picked him out of a lineup.
Buzydlowski was incarcerated at the George W. Hill Correctional Facility for an unrelated arrest when he was charged with the attempted robbery.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for next week.
"This complicates any chances he had of getting out on bail," Snyder said.
Police have been unable to track down a co-conspirator who they say drove Buzydlowski to and from the scene.
"He's obviously desperate, to rob a guy in a wheelchair," said Ridley Park Police Chief Thomas Byrne. "That's pretty low."
