'Germantown Groper' resumes his perversion

The "Germantown Groper" has struck again.

Police said that the middle-aged pervert, who reportedly began fondling random teenage girls in Germantown last summer, resurfaced in East Mount Airy about 8 a.m. Tuesday, when he groped a 16-year-old girl on Germantown Avenue near Gowen.

The girl was the eighth person victimized by the groper since June 10, 2008, when a 14-year-old girl told police that a tall, bespectacled black man had grabbed her buttocks on Germantown Avenue near Sedgwick Street.

A pattern of similar assaults occurred in the Germantown area through the winter and into the spring and summer.

In each instance, the victims - all girls between age 14 and 17 - claimed that they had been groped by a man who jogged past them while they were either waiting for a bus or walking home from school.

Investigators from the police Special Victims Unit released a composite sketch of the suspect, who is clean-shaven, about 220 pounds, between 5 feet 11 and 6 feet 3, and is believed to be 40 to 50 years old.

Police said that during his last attack he was wearing a hooded black sweatsuit with red stripes on the arms and pant legs, and was limping.

Tipsters can contact the SVU at 215-685-3251.
