'Limping Bandit' nabbed?
FBI officials have arrested a man they believe is the Limping Bandit, who robbed and then hobbled out of four banks in the past two weeks.
Lawrence Wilson, 54, was arrested yesterday without incident on Kensington Avenue near Cambria Street in Kensington after he robbed the Sovereign Bank at 11th and Market streets, FBI officials said in a release. Wilson is a suspect in the following robberies: a TD Bank in Boothwyn, Delaware County, on Sept. 9; the PNC bank at 4th and Market streets on Monday, and the Bank of America at Aramingo and Castor avenues on Wednesday.
Red-handed thief sought
Authorities are looking for a man who robbed a bank and wound up red-handed. The thief was given a dye pack along with cash by a teller at the TD Bank at 2520 Grant Ave. about 11 a.m. yesterday. The FBI says the man is believed to have gone from that bank to the TD Bank branch at 2900 Moreland Road, Abington Township, and robbed a teller there 45 minutes later. The robber is described as a tall, 40-year-old black man with a graying beard and wearing a blue hat with a "V" on the front. Anyone with information about the robberies should call the FBI at 215-418-4000.
He admits harassment
Former Yeadon Councilman Terry McGirth, who was removed from office in July because of a prior embezzlement conviction, pleaded guilty yesterday in Media to harassing the borough's former finance director, Terri Vaughn.
She had alleged that McGirth inappropriately kissed her. The plea deal calls for no punishment, but Vaughn agreed to it because she wanted McGirth to admit culpability, a spokeswoman for the District Attorney's Office said.
Labor backing Lentz
Democratic state Rep. Bryan Lentz has snagged an early labor endorsement in the 7th Congressional District race. The Delaware County AFL-CIO unanimously endorsed Lentz, who is expected to challenge former U.S. Attorney Pat Meehan for the seat being vacated by Democratic U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak.
The county AFL-CIO was a strong supporter of Republican Curt Weldon when he was in office.
