A shooting last night killed a 24-year-old man outside a North Philadelphia home, police said. Several shots were fired shortly before 9 p.m. at 16th and Master streets, striking the man, police said. He was pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital at 9 p.m. Police reported no arrests.

9 named to parks/rec panel
Mayor Nutter yesterday announced nine members of the new Commission on Parks and Recreation. They are: Nancy Goldenberg, vice president of planning for the Center City District; Debra Goldstein, president of Conservation Matters LLC; Jeffrey Hackett, a pest-control technician with the school district; Pete Hoskins, a former director of Fairmount Park; Anthony Langford, president of the Friends of East Fairmount Park; Leslie Anne Miller, member of the board of Fairmount Conservancy; Carol Rice, chairman of the Warrington Township Park and Recreation Board; Carlos Rodriguez, assistant vice president of Beneficial Bank and president of Puerto Rico Stars, and Sarah Clark Stuart, co-coordinator of the Schuylkill River Park Alliance.
3 admit Delco hit attempt
Three Chester men admitted this week to a June 2006 attempted hit on an alleged high-level drug dealer who has survived at least four attempts on his life. Hassan Lamar Merritt, Anthony Major and Abdul-Malik Abdus-Shakur pleaded guilty Tuesday to conspiracy to murder Alfonso "Fonnie" Caldwell, 38, who is now facing federal drug charges. Caldwell, a paroled murderer from Bear, Del., has been shot at least twice, and also has survived two other shootings, police said.
Fireworks buyers arrested
Using undercover surveillance, Delaware State Police arrested eight people this week who had driven to Pennsylvania to buy fireworks. It is legal for Delaware residents to buy fireworks in Pennsylvania, but illegal for them to possess or light them in their home state.
Manslaughter gets him 21 yrs.
Angel Alicea, 32, of Camden, was sentenced yesterday to 21 years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated manslaughter in the June 4, 2006, slaying of Rashell Harmon, 18, of Camden, and wounding five others. His brother Joey Alicea 29, also of Camden, was sentenced to eight years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated assault. The shootings took place near Mount Ephraim and Thurman streets. *
