Task force targets 19 for guns

The city's Gun Violence Task Force has arrested or obtained arrest warrants for 19 people charged with illegal transfer or theft of handguns, District Attorney Lynne Abraham, state Attorney General Tom Corbett and Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey announced. Since it began in December 2006, the task force has opened 1,108 investigations involving the illegal transfer of firearms, made 324 arrests, and seized 654 firearms.

Man held in son's slaying

A Horsham Township man was arrested yesterday and charged with shooting his son to death with a hunting rifle in their home Sunday night, police said.

David Janus told police that he shot his son, Brian, during an argument. Horsham police officers said that David Janus kept repeating, "I'm sorry I shot my son." He is charged with voluntary and involuntary manslaughter and related charges, police said.

U. Darby cops seek robber

Upper Darby police are seeking the public's help in identifying a man who held up a Wawa on 69th Street shortly after 10 Sunday night.

The suspect is described as a bald, black man, about 5-foot-7 and 230 pounds. He was wearing a red Nike Air shirt and blue jeans. Tipsters are asked to call Upper Darby police at 610-734-7677.

Tech exec admits bribes

A former executive at Nexus Technology, in Smithville, pleaded guilty in federal court yesterday to helping bribe Vietnamese government officials to win lucrative contracts.

Joseph Lukas, 60, admitted that he and other Nexus employees knowingly paid bribes from 1999 to 2005 to get contracts involving underwater mapping equipment, helicopter parts, satellite-communication parts and other items. He faces up to 10 years in prison at his sentencing next April. *
