A veteran Philadelphia police officer was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly pistol-whipped his fiancee during a domestic dispute.

Police were called to a house on Waterview Lane near Woodhaven Road, Northeast Philadelphia, shortly after 10 p.m. when an argument between the cop, Talib Muhammad, and his 47-year-old fiancee turned violent, said police spokesman Lt. Frank Vanore.

Muhammad repeatedly struck his fiancee in the face with a handgun and then fled, Vanore said. The victim, whose name was not released, was treated at Frankford Hospital-Torresdale for a laceration over her left eye.

Later that evening, investigators found Muhammad, 44, driving on I-95 near Washington Avenue. He was carrying two handguns, although it was unclear if the weapons were police-issued or personally owned.

Vanore said Muhammad, a 13-year veteran assigned most recently to the Narcotics Field Unit, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and possessing an instrument of crime. He's been suspended from the police force for 30 days with the intent to dismiss, Vanore said. *
