When Latifa Greer opened the door Saturday evening and saw her husband - from whom she recently separated - and his new girlfriend, not a word was spoken, police said.

The gun brandished by the man she once loved and the unknown, macelike substance sprayed in her face by his new lover said it all.

"They had a single focus in mind," said Sgt. Brian McBride, of the city's Central Detectives unit.

Torrie Greer, 28, and his new girlfriend, Christian Dillard, 26, abducted Latifa Greer, 30, from her friend's house on Croskey Way near Nassau Street in the city's Sharswood section and forced her into their car, McBride said.

But why they did so remains a mystery.

According to Latifa Greer's stepmother, Bessie Holland, Latifa and Torrie had been together for about four or five years. McBride said the couple recently separated.

Police have no recorded history of abuse involving the couple, McBride said, but authorities are going to dig deeper into domestic files today that weren't easily accessible over the weekend.

Holland said that Latifa has five children, none of whom were fathered by Torrie.

Police said Torrie Greer and Dillard probably knew Latifa had been staying on and off for several weeks at her friend's home when they came to the door of the residence about 5:30 p.m.

McBride said the homeowner was present during the kidnapping but that she could only get a vague description of the getaway vehicle - a silver, four-door sedan - before it fled east on Bolton Street.

Authorities hope that Greer is being held in the Philadelphia area and that the incident is "just domestic-related."

"But sometimes, the worst fights and the worst crimes happen when people are related," McBride said. "You'd hope the overriding emotion would be that he loved her, at one point.

"But he did take her away in a violent fashion, so you really can't say." *
