A veteran detective has been accused of indecently assaulting a woman he was supposed to be helping earlier this week.

The unidentified woman walked into Northeast Detectives, on Levick Street near Harbison Avenue, early Tuesday morning to file a complaint against someone who threatened her, police sources said.

A detective escorted her back to an interview room, but once the two were inside, the interview allegedly evolved into something tawdry.

The woman told police that the detective had asked her to remove her shirt and began photographing - and licking - her breasts, sources said.

From there, the woman said the detective also fondled her below the waist, even though she was menstruating.

Investigators from the police Crime Scene Unit found blood inside the interview room, sources said.

Police also have searched the detective's car, his house and his locker at work.

Although no charges have been formally filed, the detective has been taken off street duty and was forced to hand in his gun, sources said.

The investigation is being handled by the police Internal Affairs Bureau and the district attorney's office.
