A federal jury Thursday convicted a Philadelphia lawyer of conspiracy to manufacture 1,000 marijuana plants in a warehouse he owned on American Street near Dauphin.

Richard K. Creamer, 38, of Fairmount Avenue near Orkney Street, faces a mandatory minimum of 10 years behind bars at sentencing May 23.

The case resulted in charges against 12 others - including Creamer's partner, James Alberts - all of whom pleaded guilty. Some of the defendants testified against Creamer.

Man shot, killed at bar

A 35-year-old man was fatally shot inside a bar in East Germantown last night, police said. Police were called to TJ's Lounge on Woodlawn Street near Crowson about 8:30 where they found the victim with at least one gunshot wound to the chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene, cops said. Investigators reported no immediate arrests.

She admits importing pills

Mimi Trieu, of Brighton Street near Loretto Avenue, pleaded guilty in federal court yesterday to illegally importing and distributing 4 million diet pills from China that were not approved by the FDA. Trieu, 46, is to be sentenced on March 10. Authorities said she imported and sold diet pills even after she learned the pills contained an antiseizure medication and a chemical solvent that is considered a possible carcinogen.

Award for Ackerman

Superintendent Arlene Ackerman has received the 2011 Dr. Effie H. Jones Humanitarian Award, given by the American Association of School Administrators, for her "tireless commitment to diversifying the field of education with high quality leaders. . . . " She'll receive the award Feb. 19 in Denver.

Man sought in fatal crash

Police are asking for the public's help in locating a Philadelphia man who they say was responsible for a car accident in Berlin, in October, in which a 22-year-old woman was killed.

Kenney Bellegarde, 21, allegedly hit another car head-on on Route 30 near Route 73 about 10 p.m. on Oct. 1, police said. Vanessa Tomlin, the car's passenger, died hours later at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, police said. The driver of the car was badly injured. Police charged Bellegarde on Oct. 25 after tests confirmed that he was driving drunk. A $2,000 reward is being offered. His last known address is on Hollis Street near Walnut Lane, West Oak Lane.

2 more for Pa. jobs

The state Attorney General Office's top criminal investigator, Frank Noonan, 64, has been tapped to lead the State Police, and Franklin County Jail Warden John Wetzel, 41, would head the Corrections Department, Gov.-elect Tom Corbett said yesterday in filling two more administration posts. The two must be confirmed by the state Senate.
