Pennsylvania is about to offer $192.5 million in funds that families can tap to make their homes more energy-efficient. The money - a combination of grants, loans and rebates - will help cover costs for basic weatherizing and for alternatives like solar power and geothermal heat.
If you want to save money on heat, think of your house as one big happy box of cozy warmth. Then find the places where cold air comes in (Hint: Most of it enters through the basement) and the places where warm air leaks out (the attic, primarily, because heat rises).

    With heating oil prices forecast to hit $3,717 for the average house this winter, some pretty "out there" ideas from the off-the-grid crowd are now filtering into the mainstream.
