Dan Gross: Ryan Howard a surprise wedding guest

WHEN KIMBERLY Hoffman made place cards of famous Philadelphians like Rocky Balboa, Donovan McNabb, and Ryan Howard for her Friday night wedding to Micah Hauenstein at the Water Works restaurant, she never expected the real Ryan Howard to show up.

The Phillies first baseman and a female companion stopped by, unaware that the restaurant was closed for a wedding. Restaurant staff invited the pair inside for a drink and when owner Michael Karloutsos and family told Howard about the place cards, he happily areed to surprise the bridal party, getting a hug from the bewildered bride.

To thank Howard for being a good sport the kitchen sent him onion soup and tuna ceviche and lobster bisque for his date.

Howard was later seen backstage along with teammate Jimmy Rollins at Power 99's Powerhouse concert at the Wachovia Center headlined by Jay-Z. The hip-hop superstar dedicated his hit "99 Problems" to Michael Vick, who was also backstage.

Chio chases naked man

Wired 96.5's Chio encountered a naked man trying to gain entry into his South Jersey neighbor's car and house early Saturday after coming home from a sleep study. Chio asked the man what he was doing and he replied "I am just wasted, man. I'm with Tony."

Chio, whose real name is Tim Acosta, called Cherry Hill police but continued to keep an eye on the man who, neighbors told him, had also tried to enter their homes. Chio used the incident to remind wife, Shawn, to always lock the door, as she sometimes forgets. Shawn says that she was upset that she slept through the incident as she would have loved to have had a video clip of her husband chasing a naked man. Cherry Hill police eventually apprehended the man.

Diamond Kuts is blowin' up

Power 99's DJ Diamond Kuts, the only female mixer on local airwaves, was a big hit in Atlanta at the BET Hip Hop Awards, which air at 8 tomorrow night. Diamond Kuts, who has toured with Chris Brown and Lil' Mama, performed alongside Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj and Gucci Mane. Diamond Kuts hosts BET's late-night hip-hop video show, "The Deal," along with Memph Hitz.

Dawn already done at Fox 29

Wednesday was Fox 29 anchor Dawn Stensland's last day at the station. Her departure was announced Wednesday as coming before the end of the year, but we reported Thursday on PhillyGossip.com that station management decided that if the Phillies clinched that night, that Stensland, who anchored the 10 p.m. news and subsequent Phillies coverage, would not return. She had scheduled vacation Thursday and Friday and sure enough, the station is running promos touting tonight's debut of new anchor team of Kerri-Lee Halkett and Thomas Drayton.

How Classy of our management that they don't give Dawn - who is loved in the newsroom and in the city - a chance to say goodbye. They are upset over the number of phone calls and emails they have received - what the hell did they expect? Goodbye Dawn we love you and miss you.

Fox 29 has always been an bass ackwards type of organization. They are ruthless to their talent. Let's not even talk about the poor folks who work behind the scenes. Any station that has Jenn Fredericks as a leading anchor, fires Tolly, and has Joyce Evans as a "filler" needs help. At least they had the sense to woo Mike Jerrick back.

Fox 29 did not "woo" Mike Jerrick back and he doesn't want to be here. His syndicated show got cncelled and they needed somewhere to put him until his big contract expired. Fox29 didn't want that contract on their books and he didn't want the demotion - but neither had any choice> Jerrick's contract is part of the reason they couldn't keep Dawn and there are more cuts to come - many due to Jerrick's contract.

seems like fox 29 doesnt know what they wanna do. they are always firing good talent. dawn was very classy and a pleasure to watch. maybe they should take a page from the book of action news where talent stays there for decades. get a grip fox 29. u dont gain viewers with the musical anchor chair. losing dawn may have been your last straw.

The new promos are a joke. Halkett and Drayton act like they've been together for years! I'd give them six months before FOX pulls their plugs. I'd take Barnett and May any day over them. How's the station feel about Sally Ann Mosey coming back, FOX29newsroom?

We had a sports theme wedding in June. Our tables were named after Phillies. Our placecards were World Series tickets. Our bridal party arrived in an Eagles bus. Unfortunately, my husband is from Pittsburgh so we had some Steelers stuff too. I wish Ryan Howard had showed up at our wedding!! Here is a link to our wedding website if you want to check out some of the theme stuff we did. It was really cool and our guests loved it - http://web.me.com/striner/Wedding/Wedding_Photos_Part_1.html#399

I cannot believe Fox 29 got rid of Dawn Stensland! What a bad decision! She had credibility and was a class act. Doubtful you are going to find someone better than her.

I guess Ryan doesn't need to call for reservations like the rest of us. Nice to hear he made her day, I trust the groom took care of the evening's responsibilities.

Why on earth would Fox 29 let go of Dawn Stensland? She was the only reason to watch that station. Thy are insane.
