Ya Gotta Believe Tim McGraw would take heat over Sandy Hook concert

Also in Tattle: Laverne Cox gets naked, “Amazing Grace” the musical, Gwyneth fails challenge and more

WHEN TATTLE mentioned a couple of days ago that Tim McGraw had announced The Concert for Sandy Hook Promise, with proceeds benefiting an organization with the crazy, un-American goal of protecting kids from guns, we wondered how that might play with a portion of his fans.

Uh, not well.

The Washington Post reports that McGraw (along with his openers, Billy Currington and Chase Bryant) have received a backlash from gun-rights advocates.

Tim's motives seem reasonable. His fiddler, Dean Brown, has a close friend whose 7-year-old son was killed in the mass shooting.

But some tweeters see McGraw's fundraiser as an affront to their freedom.

The Post found these tweets:

"I really hope their pay check from this one show will cover all of the fans they have alienated from this concert."

"@TimMcGraw-@billycurrington Hope you literally break a leg at the anti-gun concert. Shame on you both."

"3 Country musicians holding a concert to benefit an org that wants to take my #guns? #WTF? @TheTimMcGraw @chasebryant @billycurrington"

"@TheTimMcGraw Do you not support the United States Constitution in its entirety? The constitution includes the Bill of Rights. All or none"

"@TheTimMcGraw@sandyhook@XFINITYTheatre@chasebryant@billycurrington you know you're supporting an anti-gun anti-freedom group?"

"I wonder if @TheTimMcGraw will have any fans left after he fund raises to take away our #2A rights. http://t.co/DuEcOm3OSn";

By the way, Tim's latest single and the name of his tour is "Shotgun Rider."

Discuss.

* In other news certainly to raise some hackles, People magazine reports that transgender actress Laverne Cox ("Orange is the New Black") has modeled in a nude photo shoot for Allure magazine.

She is tastefully positioned.

"Going through life, you try to cover and hide, but it doesn't really work," she says.

"Black women are not often told that we're beautiful unless we align with certain standards," she continues. "Trans women certainly are not told we're beautiful. Seeing a black transgender woman embracing and loving everything about herself might be inspiring to some other folks. There's beauty in the things we think are imperfect. That sounds very cliché, but it's true."

Cox was just named one of TIME's 100 Most Influential People in the world. Also on the list are local natives Bradley Cooper, Lee Daniels and Kevin Hart, which may make the list one of the silliest in the world.

* And in other Twitter news, a fan of Meek Mill responded to news that he was now engaged to Nicki Minaj with this:

"@MeekMill you so f---ing lucky n---a."

Ah, poetry.

TATTBITS

Lady Antebellum's Hillary Scott was singing "Need You Now" to firefighters yesterday when her tour bus went up in flames on I-30 in Garland, Texas.

Nobody was injured.

* A judge has ordered former rap-music mogul Marion "Suge" Knight to stand trial on murder and attempted-murder charges in a deadly hit-and-run.

The co-founder of Death Row Records has been charged with intentionally killing Terry Carter and seriously injuring Cle "Bone" Sloan by striking them with his truck outside a Compton burger stand in late January.

Knight's attorney has said his client was ambushed and was trying to flee an attack by Sloan when he hit the men.

Gwyneth Paltrow has failed in her attempt to eat for one week on the $29 allotted a recipient of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

She made it to the fourth day, when, she wrote on her website, "I personally broke and had some chicken and fresh vegetables (and in full transparency, half a bag of black licorice)."

In Gwyneth-style, she tried to eat super-healthy, buying cilantro, limes and avocados for her $29 grocery bag. A person accustomed to eating for $29/week, however, would have purchased potatoes, pasta, bread and chopped meat.
