The Grammy award-winning Brooklyn-born DJ will headline "This is How We Do It," a '90s-themed party in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Philadelphia FIGHT'S Youth Health Empowerment Project.
Tickets are still available to see Spinderella, a/k/a Deidra Roper, at Philadelphia FIGHT's party from 7 to 11 p.m. at Moore College of Art and Design (1916 Race St.). Philly-based DJ Foxx Boogie will open for her.
"Salt-n-Pepa has been standing up for the rights of young people in the gay community and those that need support our entire careers," said Roper.
"That old-school vibe - kickin' it - that's my specialty."
She won't be here long because she's flying out afterward for the SxSW music festival, but Spinderella said she has a lot of family in Philly and loves our town for its deep roots in soul music.
"A lot of cities have their thing, but Philly has soul to it. Coming from the music standpoint, my father's era of music is really what has impacted me," she said, citing Patti LaBelle, DJ Jazzy Jeff and Questlove as some of her favorites.
Twins in the forecast for CBS weather lady
CBS3 meteorologist Katie Fehlinger announced on air yesterday morning that she and her husband, Steve, are expecting twins.
This is the couple's first - or, should I say, first pair.
"There's a 100 percent chance my husband, Steve, and I are becoming parents," Fehlinger joked on air.
The babes are due Sept. 27, the same day Pope Francis is expected to deliver a papal mass on the Ben Franklin Parkway.
A barrel of laughs at the home of crab fries
Speaking of predictions, Philly.com's "Weather Savior," John Bolaris, will broadcast his new open-forum entertainment show, "Center Stage," tonight from Chickie's and Pete's (1526 Packer Ave.) in South Philly.
To mark the launch of March Madness, Bolaris will host famed former Philadelphia Eagle Vince Papale, inspiration for the movie "Invincible," and comedian Mary Radzinski, who was voted last year's "Best Comedian" by Philadelphia magazine.
The show starts at noon.
"It will be a party," Bolaris promises. "Bring your green hat."
New book, new kicks for Little League
champ
Catch 13-year-old Little League sensation Mo'ne Davis this Saturday signing copies of her new book, Mo'ne Davis: Remember My Name, at the Barnes & Noble (1805 Walnut St.) in Center City. Published just this week by HarperCollins, Davis' book highlights the Little League World Series star who clocked a 70 mph pitch before she even hit the eighth grade. The event is free and open to the public at 2 p.m.
Davis also has a new sneaker line out called M4D3, which stands for "Make A Difference Everyday." A percentage of all sneaker sales will go to charities supporting impoverished young girls around the world.
