Steve and Mia: Dating problem? Don't quit

Q: I'm about ready to give up on finding the right woman. I've tried the dating services, the bar scene, friends of friends, etc. I'm 32 and have never been married. The longest relationship I've had lasted three years.

Some women are too high-maintenance. Others are attractive but not smart, and so I can't commit because I know it won't work. The ones I really like always end up dumping me for another guy after a year or so. What do I do next?

Steve: I'll turn to Samuel Beckett for this one: "No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better."

Mia: Instead of pulling a chump move like quitting, rev your Meet-Miss-Right strategies into high gear. Dating is a numbers game. The more women you meet, the more likely you are to find The One.

Make a point of meeting as many new women as possible. If one dating service isn't working, sign up for others. There's no rule that says you have to be on only one dating site at a time. Join a church and go. While you're there, you'll notice how most of the congregation is female.

Sign up for yoga. Even if you don't meet someone to date, you'll enjoy the view. Sign up for a charity and make a point of hanging out with other volunteers your age.

Whatever you do, don't get negative - and don't quit. You'll meet someone eventually. Write and tell us when you do.
