TNT to air 'Southland'

It's official: TNT has picked up rights to "Southland," the police drama from John Wells ("ER," "Third Watch") that NBC canceled shortly before its second-season premiere, and will begin airing the show, beginning with the first season, on Jan. 12.

While the deal includes the six episodes already filmed for this season, TNT hasn't yet announced plans to produce more, reportedly because it's waiting to see how the ratings are.

Ex-prez back on '24'

The Fox publicity machine, which never wants us to forget for a moment that the network's big guns come out in January, announced that Gregory Itzin will return as disgraced former U.S. president (and stabbing victim) Charles Logan in Season 8 of "24" as current president Allison Taylor (Cherry Jones) reluctantly asks for his help with a crisis.

The show's scheduled to return in one of its usual four-hour, two-night premieres on Jan. 17 and 18.

Sister act on 'Bones'

Zooey Deschanel will guest-star in a holiday episode of Fox's "Bones" Dec. 10, in what's being billed as her first on-screen pairing with her sister Emily Deschanel, who stars in the show as forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance Brennan. Zooey will play a distant relative of Brennan's, according to Fox.

In a reunion airing the same night, NBC's "Community" will include Anthony Michael Hall, working with Chevy Chase for the first time since "National Lampoon's Vacation."
