Dan Gross: Big Daddy's in a stinky place
The 610 WIP overnight host says that a water pipe burst on the third floor, flooding the second floor below. "It stinks," says Big Daddy of the putrid stench from his mildewed home. He hopes that the house can be fully repaired, but for now the comedian, who sleeps during the day, is catching his Zs at a hotel while contractors are hard at work repairing the place.
Out and about
_ Cybill Shepherd, who's still got it, picked up the bill for her and three guests at Pod (3636 Sansom) Saturday night. The group ordered Sake mojitos, chardonnay, rock shrimp tempura, sashimi, lots of sushi.
* Alan Ruck, of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and "Spin City" fame, enjoyed the lobster mac and cheese at the Continental Midtown (18th & Chestnut) on a visit there a few nights ago. Ruck just left town after working a few days on "Booted," an indie comedy shooting until next week.
Ruck also got a morning steak Whiz at Jim's (4th & South) after being interviewed by 94 WYSP's Danny Bonaduce.
* Singer Keri Hilson had a busy Friday night. She got off the Wachovia Center stage about 10, performing right before Jay-Z at Power 99's Powerhouse show, then hightailed it to A.C., where she sang her hits "Turnin' Me On" and "Knock You Down" to a packed house at the Borgata's mur.mur club.
* Sean Patrick Flannery and Norman Reedus, stars of "Boondock Saints II," which opens Friday, hung out at the Irish Pub (20th & Walnut) the other day doing interviews for the movie.
Charitably minded
While ABC News White House correspondent Jake Tapper would have loved to see NBC counterpart Chuck Todd shave his goatee after losing a Phillies/Dodgers bet, he's happier that Todd donated $1,000 to Dr. Shershah Syed, who cares for pregnant women and girls in Pakistan. Queen Village/Merion-raised Tapper says that the charities were put up as an opt-out, in the event Todd didn't want to shave or if Tapper chose not to grow a goatee had he lost. As a result, more than $6,000 has been raised for Syed, and Tapper and others have also donated to Samaritan Inns, a charity that helps the homeless, which was Todd's recipient of choice.
* 98.1 WOGL's Bob Pantano hosts the Dance Philly to benefit the Susanna DeLaurentis Charitable Foundation, which funds research efforts for cystic fibrosis and pediatric cancer and scholarships, from 7 to midnight Nov. 6 at the Holiday Inn (900 Packer) by the stadiums. Tickets are $10, or $50 including dinner. For tickets or more info, visit dancephilly.com.
(Speaking of Rydell, who faces a Nov. 19 hearing in Lower Merion on a DUI charge, he'll perform with Frankie Avalon and Fabian on March 19 at the Keswick Theatre, in Glenside.)
* 610 WIP's Steve Trevelise performs with former Miss New Jersey Dena Blizzard Saturday night at Catch a Rising Star, in Princeton. It's a benefit for the Eagles Tackling Breast Cancer charity which is dear to Trevelise, whose wife, Deneen, is a breast-cancer survivor. The comic, on whose overnight weekend show we are a weekly guest, once sat in a dunk tank at the Linc in a Plaxico Burress Giants jersey getting dunked for charity. Signed Eagles memorabilia will be auctioned off at the show, which starts at 7:30 p.m.. To reserve tickets, call 609-987-8018.
DeBella's $ for info on shot dogs
102.9 WMGK's John DeBella will match the $500 reward currently being offered by the Chester County SPCA for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the sicko who shot two dogs in the head and abandoned them in Chadds Ford. DeBella's listeners then followed up with pledges to the reward fund after he interviewed Rich Britton, of the SPCA. If you have info on the culprits, call 610-692-6113, x213, or email aps@ccspca.org.
* DeBella hosts a Halloween party Friday night at Finnigan's Wake (3rd & Spring Garden) at which 'MGK house band Dog Bite Money will perform. It's a Toys for Tots benefit and costs $10. Contributions of toys are encouraged, too.
