Dan Gross: Harry Jay Katz hurtin'

HARRY JAY KATZ says he's in the worst hurtin' pain of his life after breaking six ribs Tuesday in two falls at his East Falls home and one off a barstool at Chops (401 City) in Bala Cynwyd.

Katz, 68, a reformed playboy, is a big drinker, but swears that he had only one drink that day, a vodka and grapefruit juice at 11 a.m., and that he was sipping ice water at the steakhouse when he fell off the stool.

He says that he felt dizzy and had fallen at home while dressing to go out that night, and also felt dizzy at the bar.

Chops owner Alex Plotkin says that he offered to call an ambulance, but that Katz declined. After he fell again at home that night, Katz says that girlfriend Debra Renee Cruz took him to the Lankenau Hospital ER. He also hurt a finger during one of the falls.

Katz, whose doctors told him that he'll need a few weeks to recover, is upset that he will be forced to miss the funeral of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy. Katz, a longtime friend of Maria Shriver and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, last week attended the private funeral of Eunice Kennedy Shriver.

Out and about

Eagle Tank Daniels; CBS 3's Doug Kammerer; Erin Elmore, who's now doing celebrity interviews for BorgataTV.com; and singer Teddy Roosevelt were among models Tuesday at Fashion for a Fight, at Union Trust (717 Chestnut). The event, held by Dining Out magazine, raised more than $1,500 for the Cancer Center at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. NBC 10's John Clark and Dave Warren, Fox 29's Mike Jerrick, and Comcast SportsNet's Marshall Harris were among guests.

* Allman Brothers Band guitarist

Derek Trucks hung out at a private party at the Susquehanna Bank Center last weekend with those who attended the second annual Brothers and Sisters cocktail and dinner party to raise funds for the Allman Brothers Big House Foundation.

The party was hosted by Donna Gentile O'Donnell, executive board member of the foundation, which seeks to restore a Georgia house where the Allmans lived and played in the 1970s and to turn it into a museum. Guests included lawyer Bob Mongeluzzi; state Sen. Daylin Leach and wife, Jen; Checker Air CEO Brian Harrity; and former Eagles tight end John Spagnola. The event, which took place before the Allmans show at the Camden venue, raised more than $50,000.

From Abington to Hollywood

Abington native Adam Vetri is the executive producer of MTV's new "House of Jazmin," about 20-year-old fashion designer Jazmin Whitley.

Vetri, younger brother of chef/restaurateur Marc Vetri and Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman, graduated from Abington High in 1987 before attending the University of Colorado at Boulder. US Weekly has called the show, which like most MTV programming has nothing to do with music, "an unexpected treat."

Blavat part of beach bash

Jerry Blavat will keep 'em dancing from 3 to 5 Saturday afternoon at Stockton Beach, in Cape May, where there's a big beach bash to mark the 400th anniversary of the founding of Cape May. The free festivities run from 1 to 6 p.m.
