Eats beat

* Have waste vegetable oil, will travel, if you're the Vegan Bus, which starts here on a national veganism and environmental awareness campaign. But first, Public Eye: Artists for Animals' Kids Club hosts a vegan BBQ with Hula-hoops, games, music and free veggie goodies at Clark Park (Chester Avenue between 43rd and 45th streets, RSVP at 215-620-2130), 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. For the grownups, the Vegan Drinks 4th of July Extra"vegan"za will be held at Harmony Vegetarian Restaurant (135 N. 9th St.) from 6-11 p.m. Saturday. $20, RSVP to ed@vegandrinksphilly.com.

* Pub fare, craft beer and live music. Sounds like a recipe we'd like to sample at the newly opened Blockley Pourhouse (3801 Chestnut St., 215-222-1234). Mary Oaks, a "casual beer- and wine-centric" eatery, is scheduled to open next door the first week of August. Chef Ross Essner provides menus for both. Owner Ned Taddei first got to know the location when it was Chestnut Cabaret.

* Learn how to make a good steak from a master - Morton's co-owner Klaus Fritsch, author of the new "Morton's The Cookbook: 100 Steakhouse Recipes for Every Kitchen" ($32.50, www.mortons.com). He'll sign books 6-7:30 p.m. July 13 at the Philadelphia Morton's (1411 Walnut St., 215-557-0724). Get a copy of the book, appetizers and cocktails for $59, which includes a $5 donation to Philabundance.

* TripAdvisor has named City Food Tours to its 2009 Top 10 Tours in America list. Center City residents and "unabashed foodies" Robert Weinberg and Eric Matzke started their company in 2007. For the complete list of winners, visit TripAdvisor.com.

* They'll be grillin' chicken, burgers, hot dogs and corn on the barbie tomorrow and Saturday at Alison two (424 S. Bethlehem Pike, Fort Washington, 215-591-0200), $4. Other July 4th fare includes ice cream sundaes and Red, White & Blue Sangria. In the dining room, there's a four-course prix fixe dinner; bottles of wine are $10 over cost.
