Dan Gross: Ex-child star seeking a date
LADIES, THERE'S still time to win a date with former child star Willie Aames. The "Eight is Enough" and "Charles in Charge" actor is hoping local lovelies show up at Alfie's (2417 Welsh) by 9 tonight.
He's seeking a date to escort him to his Saturday-night celebrity-boxing fight against South Philly's Mike Fazio, of MTV's "Double Shot of Love," at the World Gym on the Boulevard. Eagle Eugene Bright will be the guest referee. Fox 29 anchor Thomas Drayton is serving as cornerman for Daniel Morroni, the "Tailor of Terror," who takes on Tailor Made from VH1's "I Love Money 2." Tickets will be available at the door.
Olbermann bashes Inky editors
MSNBC's "Countdown" host Keith Olbermann Tuesday night included Inquirer editor Bill Marimow and Editorial Page Editor Harold Jackson in his nightly "Worst Person in the World" feature over the paper's decision to publish regular columns by John Yoo, the Philadelphia native and former Justice Department lawyer who wrote the "torture memos" that authorized harsh treatments of prisoners. Our colleague Will Bunch's original post of outrage, on his blog Attytood, over Yoo's writing for the Inquirer,led to a zillion blog posts and a story in the New York Times.
Marimow said yesterday that Olbermann's award "sounds like Esquire magazine's old dubious-distinction award," and he would "decline the honor." Jackson told the Times the idea to bring on Yoo as a columnist was Inquirer Publisher Brian Tierney's.
Out and about
* Upper Darby native Jamie Kennedy
brought his girlfriend, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and his parents, Bob and Josie, to Rouge (205 S. 18th) after taking in Tuesday's Phillies game. The party sat at a corner table and snacked on banana cream pie, bread pudding and gelato. A few hours earlier, comedian David Brenner, who plays the Prince Music Theater this weekend, and some pals stopped at Rouge, where Brenner ordered a salmon dish and tuna appetizer. Brenner and pals then took in Leonard Cohen's concert at the Academy of Music.
* Gov. Rendell and Judge Midge Ren-
dell were among guests last night at the Art Museum congratulating cable pioneers/philanthropists Marguerite and Gerry Lenfest on receiving the Philadelphia Award.
Mayor Nutter, NBC 10's Renee Chenault Fattah, City Councilman Jack Kelly and Pepsi mogul Harold Honickman and his wife, Lynne, were also guests of the award reception, chaired by Dr. Donald Parks.
* There's a "Hell's Kitchen" season-
finale-viewing party at 8 tonight at the Music Box Theater at the Borgata. Why? Because the winning chef, chosen by host Gordon Ramsay, will work at a new eatery coming to the Atlantic City hot spot.
* Rev. Bob Levy headlines one of Tom
"TR" Robinson's nights of comedy at Tailgators (60 E. Baltimore) in Clifton Heights tonight that also features local comics Chris McDevitt, "Munzy K" Kraiza, Mike Rainey and Benny Michaels. The 21+ event starts at 8 and has an $8 cover.
Singer wins $25K on 'Millionaire'
Eddie Horwitz, who works as a wedding singer with the Eddie Bruce Band, earned $25,000 over a two-day run on "Who Wants to Be A Millionaire" this week. The last question Horwitz faced, with no lifelines remaining, was: "The Teddy Roosevelt saying 'Walk Softly and Carry a Big Stick' came from which culture?"
He guessed American Indian, but the answer was West Africa. Horwitz says he had a lot of fun doing the show but wished he would have met Meredith Vieira, who was off this week. "Dancing with the Stars" co-host Samantha Harris filled in. Tonight Horwitz is back to work, singing at the National Museum of American Jewish History Gala at the Bellevue.
