Dan Gross: No business like Soul business
Serio: No menace to society
Some Fox 29 viewers were sure they saw an electronic monitoring device on the ankle of weather anchor Sue Serio during Friday's "Good Day Philadelphia."
Serio lifted her leg to show her red heels in support of the Phillies, which revealed a curious device where such a bracelet would be.
Not surprisingly, she is not under house arrest.
"My life is too boring to have done anything to result in house arrest," Serio told us Friday, saying that viewers had seen a "microphone pack, which I wear clipped to a strap around my ankle."
* In other Fox 29 weather news, Rob Guarino has landed a job at Albuquerque, N.M.'s KOAT 7, reports TVSpy.com. The longtime Fox 29 meteorologist, who was not renewed to make room for John Bolaris, will be on the station's morning show. Albuquerque is the nation's 44th largest TV market. Philly is No. 4.
Out and about
Dodgers manager Joe Torre took some personal time to dine with his family at Davio's (111 S. 17th) the night before Game 1, while Dodgers owner Frank McCourt, operations executive Don Mattingly and first-base coach Mariano Duncan, a former Phillie, sat at another table for a team meeting.
* Members of AC/DC did shots of Johnny Walker Black with fans at the Public House (18th & Cherry) the other night when the band was in for dinner. The Aussie rockers, who play the Wachovia Center Nov. 17, were happy to pose for photos.
New York Knicks guard Allan Houston also was at the Public House a couple nights back, where he enjoyed filet mignon sliders and a Patron margarita, tipping very generously.
Another area poker pro win$ big
Last week, we told you about Michael Miller from Washington's Crossing, who just took a $2 million purse at the European Poker Tour in London. It turns out that Havertown's Matt Brady also won big bucks, a million of 'em, last week. The 27-year-old Malvern Prep grad won UltimateBet.com's Aruba Poker Classic. Brady attended West Virginia University and has played poker professionally for more than three years. He's off to Las Vegas for a tournament at the Bellagio this week.
"I could have lost this money a couple years ago when I was stupid," says Brady, who will use his winnings to "take care of the important stuff," and also to reinvest in further tournaments.
Hair metal hero goes soft
Dean Davidson, former frontman of '80s glam rockers Britny Fox, who now plays mostly acoustic rock, and fellow singer/songwriter Alex Muzyka have formed the record label Green Planet, whose office can be found in Old City. Their music can be heard on MySpace. *
