INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL. Both a return to old adventure serials and a retrospective of director Steven Spielberg's career, aside from a few scenes, it doesn't really succeed as either. Harrison Ford. (PG-13) B-
IRON MAN. Playboy inventor (Robert Downey Jr.) builds militarized body-armor suit, becomes superhero. Fun, uptempo version of the Marvel comic. Jeff Bridges, Gwyneth Paltrow. (PG-13) B+
JELLYFISH. A variety of human stories float around each other in this Israeli-made drama but never seem to a coalesce into a meaningful whole. (Not rated) C+ (Wire services)
KUNG FU PANDA. OK animated movie about panda (voice of Jack Black) chosen to defend his Chinese village. Starts slow, gets better. (PG) B-

MONGOL. Fascinating foreign film epic shot in Kazakhstan showing a softer side of Genghis Khan. (PG-13) B+
THE PROMOTION. Two guys (Seann William Scott, John C. Reilly) battle to become supermarket store manager. A few laughs in an indie comedy. (R) C
REPRISE. Norwegian coming-of-age movie about would-be novelists is a lot better than its spare plot might indicate. (R) B+ (Wire services)

THE STRANGERS. Some OK atmospherics in this chiller about a woman (Liv Tyler) terrorized in rural home, but ultimately the iconography and sadism are familiar. (R) C

WHAT HAPPENS IN VEGAS. Nothing remotely funny. Ashton Kutcher, Cameron Diaz get drunk and hitched, fight over jackpot. (PG-13) D
