Dan Gross: Philly's getting 'Happy'
Neither producers nor the Greater Philadelphia Film Office has returned requests for comment on the Mitchell Lichtenstein film.
We reported Thursday on PhillyGossip.com that the family drama was comng soon, as Posey had told a pal of ours at a party in Brooklyn on Wednesday night.
The title is also that of a famous work by the filmmaker's late artist father, Roy Lichtenstein. Mitchell directed the recent horror/comedy "Teeth," about the urban legend of vagina dentata.
"Happy Tears" will leave the Philly-area toward the end of May, just before the city plays host to "Transformers 2."
Luntz returns to Penn to poll
Penn grad, political pollster and Fox News contributor Frank Luntz makes it back to Penn at least once a year to meet up with fellow Penn grad Gov. Rendell for the Penn/ Princeton basketball game. On Wednesday he'll be back at Penn to poll 30 undecided voters immediately following the debate between Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton at the National Constitution Center.
Luntz, whose voter focus groups have led to the coinage of terms such as "death tax," which is what the Republican opposition called the estate tax, will broadcast live at 9:30 Wednesday night during "Hannity & Colmes."
"I'm uncomfortable if I'm not around voters," says Luntz, who enjoys being a pollster rather than a pundit. "You learn a lot more about an election from what voters tell you than what the candidates tell you." We asked Luntz if college kids, typically left-leaning, give him any grief over working for the seemingly right-leaning Fox News. Luntz, who joined Fox last year, cites large numbers of Democratic and independent Fox viewers, and says that viewers approach him all the time to talk politics - "whether they agree or disagree with what they've seen, they're still intrigued by it."
Out and about
Chelsea Clinton was among a party of six dining on Spanish tapas Friday at Tinto (114 S. 20th).
"Gilmore Girls" mom/hottie Lauren Graham has been keeping her girlish figure with exercise classes at Lithe Method (255 S. 17th) while in town shooting "The Dream of the Romans," which co-stars Jeff Daniels.
Actress Gretchen Mol looked stunning in blue jeans and a plain white T-shirt while browsing Pink Turtle (129 N. Wayne), a women's clothing store in Wayne, Friday.
Mol's co-starring in "Tenure" with Luke Wilson, who we're told snapped "I'm eating sushi" at a few Villanova co-eds who approached him at Sushi Land (861 W. Lancaster) in Bryn Mawr last week. He's been pretty friendly in previous spottings, so the moral of the story could be don't approach somebody during a meal.
"The Boneroo" stopped at Jagers (45 S. 3rd) in Old City Saturday night. That was the name of the bachelor party of actor Andrew Koenig, who played Boner on "Growing Pains." Koenig, the son of "Star Trek" actor Walter Koenig, was very friendly and his friends wore shirts with his "Growing Pains" photo on it.
Bartender Couzin Ed, a former 94 WYSP DJ, says he pointed Koenig to Cheerleaders (Front & Oregon) when they left his spot, but he's not sure if they made it to the bikini bar.
_ Speaking of Cheerleaders, longtime manager Lisa Kennard has left and now owns North (222 South), a bar/lounge with a large late-night menu.
Songwriter has an 'Idol' shot
South Philly's Fran Lucci is a Top 20 finalist for the "American Idol" Songwriter 2008 contest. Lucci's tune "Thank You Whatever Comes" was among those picked out of thousands of submissions. The winning song will be released as the winning "American Idol" singer's first single. Online voting is open until April 23 at songwriter.americanidol.com.
