Folk Festival unveils acts
Yesterday, they unveiled the lineup for the 47th annual festival, Aug. 14-17 in Schwenksville, with Kardon declaring, "This is not your father's Philadelphia Folk Festival, but he'll definitely want to be there."
So what's new and hip? How 'bout alt folkies the Felice Brothers (who sold out the First Unitarian Church last weekend), the cool groovin' Ryan Montbleau Band and Kimya Dawson, whose wispy voice set the tone for the hit flick "Juno."
The bookers also will scoop up local diamonds the Baird Sisters (an Espers offshoot) and Hoots & Hellmouth, import world-music artists like Hawaiian ukelekle master Jake Shimabukuro and serve up a Saturday-afternoon double bill of twang rockers Allison Moorer and her new hubby, Steve
Earle.
Longtime festival goers will find veteran stars like Judy Collins, Tom Paxton and Janis Ian.
