PASSING ALONG some city high school football tidbits...

Just 2 years ago, in his first year of organized football, Stanley Baylis was an offensive lineman for the Nicetown Titans' youth squad.

Friday night, he justified his childhood nickname.

Baylis, a 5-10, 160-pound senior wideout, broke the Public League record for receiving yards in a game - 224, on just four catches - as Gratz dumped visiting Communications Tech, 42-6.

He caught an 85-yarder from Montrel Stewart (tackled at 5) and a 95-yarder (for a score) from Khalil Brown (the QBs rotated) in addition to tosses worth 23 and 21.

"I played o-line for Nicetown because they needed help there," he said. "When I signed up for Gratz last year, I told the coach [Eric Zipay] I played wideout and he said, 'OK, we'll give you a shot.' From there I just did my best. I always caught lots of passes in [street/playground] football. They called me 'Little TO.'"

Rich Drayton, now his alma mater's first-year coach, totaled 213 yards on seven catches as Central bombarded Northeast, 60-3, on Thanksgiving morning 1986, and quarterback Mike Roche set the still-standing city mark for passing yardage (409).

"I knew I was doing a lot of running and piling up yards, but I didn't think I was breaking any records," Baylis said. "The offensive line was great. Really stepped up.

"I was a little mad about not getting [the 90-yarder], but I kind of expected to be caught. I was doing a lot of running at free safety, too."

Baylis attends Engineering and Science and plays for Gratz as part of a cooperative sponsorship (as does star lineman Tamaric Richardson). It works out great because he lives on Sydenham Street, within footsteps of Gratz' stadium.

"We always played around over there," he said. "I caught lots of passes...Montrel, Khalil and I were on Nicetown together, too, so we all get along."

Against Overbrook, Carroll's Tim Dugan posted this interesting four-pack of accomplishments: interception, fumble recovery, blocked PAT and completed pass (off a fake punt)...Franklin receiver Clarence Cohen, who stands 6-2, while suggesting he needed to be targeted for more passes vs. Imhotep: "That dude can't cover me, man. He needs a step stool."...As Wood's 17-7 win over Ryan wound down, coach Steve Devlin ordered his QB to take a knee on the 4. Ryan is coached by Frank McArdle Jr., whose father, Frank, was Wood's defensive coordinator under Devlin. Dad now works for his son...Against Springfield Montco, Delaware Valley's Sean Williams passed 5-for-9 for 208 yards and all five completions went for TDs (two to Brad Wilson, one apiece to Rashaan Walker, Dominic Hamilton and Jeremiah Mitchell)...I still can't get over this one: Two weeks back vs. Boys' Latin, 10 Germantown Academy players scored six points apiece in a 60-8 win. Austin Kevitch, Ryan Crane, Keith Braccia and Marcus Anthony ran for TDs; Jake Beil, Brian Erb, Noah Kennedy and Joe Nebiolo caught TD passes; Ryan Dolan scored on a punt return; and Voltaire Escalona did his part by hitting six of his nine PATs...Roxborough's Braheem Ford has shown variety while scoring four TDs in '09: rush, reception, returns of kickoff and punt...Against O'Hara, frosh M. beat senior D. in the North Catholic rushing battle between guys named David Williams, zero yards to negative-1. Those are their middle initials. They settled for one carry apiece. David D. is a stud linebacker...Franco Harris lives. St. Joe's Prep's Pete Hurley made an Immaculate Reception - good for a TD - vs. North Penn on a pass from backup Paul McGann. The play began with a leaping battle between a defender and Prep's Colin Rodgers right at the goal line and Hurley swept in to grab the deflection...Roman has scored eight TDs this season. Brothers Kevin (sr. QB) and Dennis Regan (jr. RB) have accounted for 10. Huh? Kevin has run for one, thrown for four. Dennis has run for three, caught two...Bok's six returns vs. Fels netted 276 yards.i
