Ed Barkowitz has played in a variety of fantasy sports leagues, but draws the line at fantasy NASCAR. He is a lifelong South Philadelphian, reared about a mile from the sports complex. He attended St. Joseph's Prep high school, and Villanova and Widener universities. Among his most prized possessions is the scorebook he used during the 1980 World Series when he was 10 years old.

IF ROY WILLIAMS is so upset with how infrequently Tony Romo is hitting him, he oughta take off his shoulder pads, look at his most recent paystub and remind himself that it could be worse.

THE MOOD outside Citizens Bank Park yesterday afternoon reflected the gray skies. The energy, especially compared to the insanity of Sunday, was slow to arrive.

NEW YORK - For a second, Charlie Manuel was lost. He was sitting in the visitors' dugout at Yankee Stadium before last night's game. Oblivious to the helicopters hovering or the dozens and dozens of cameras anchored nearby, Manuel sat and chatted with a couple of reporters about his days as a kid.
NEW YORK - The Phillies spent a good part of the 2009 season reminding everyone - coaches, players, fans, the Phanatic - that 2008 was history.
THE FANTASY spotlight last week shined brightly on Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall and others who have had pleasantly surprising good starts.
THE PHILLIES are on the verge of something special, according to one guy who knows a little about doing something special.
IT WAS THE DARKEST TIME in his professional career, and Jayson Werth will still recall it with little prompting. He was asked whether playing the Dodgers (again) for a trip to the World Series held any special significance. Werth played for the Dodgers in 2004 and 2005 and would have been in the team's plans much longer if not for an injury that nearly ended his career.
DENVER OWNER Pat Bowlen said what the rest of us have been thinking, but it still was a delight to hear.
PUTTING DONOVAN McNABB back into the lineup was an easy decision for Eagles coach Andy Reid. McNabb is his No. 1 quarterback and his team's undisputed leader.
THE PHILLIES' performance in the 2007 playoffs was beyond pitiful - especially in light of how the regular season ended.
