Dave Davies has covered government and politics in Philadelphia for the past twenty years. He is senior writer for the Philadelphia Daily News, where he has worked since 1990. He is also a fill-in host for National Public Radio's Fresh Air, and WHYY's Radio Times. Before joining the Daily News, Dave was city hall bureau chief for KYW News Radio, and city hall correspondent for WHYY-FM. He was also a founding editor of Community Focus, a weekly newspaper in Philadelphia's Kensington and Port Richmond areas. He's also worked as a teacher, a cab driver and a welder. He was born and raised in Texas, and graduated from the University of Texas in 1975. He lives in Philadelphia with his wife, Marna Sternbach. They have two grown children.

IDON'T KNOW how we sur- vived it. I mean the chaos and terror that gripped the city on Election Day: radical thugs bullying voters; machines breaking down; election workers weeping in despair; disenfranchised citizens turning into mobs; dogs and cats living together . . .
