Dan Gross: Jay-Z to tone down his act
After the rapper played the song, about New York pride, at the Wachovia Center Friday, he taunted the audience that "Y'all ain't gonna be into that song next week." Jay-Z offered to bet anyone in the sold-out crowd, then changed his mind because "there's a lotta motherf-----s here," but he did point out a dude down front and had his entourage collect the name and cell-phone number of the guy to make a Phillies/Yankees wager.
While Jay-Z was sure to shout out Michael Vick on stage, he didn't acknowledge Ryan Howard or Jimmy Rollins, who were hanging out as well.
Kidd Chris lands in Portland
Kidd Chris is now a morning jock at KUFO in Portland, Ore.
The former 94 WYSP jock had launched an online show at kiddshow.com over the summer but stopped broadcasting a few weeks ago. Less than a month ago he told us he never expected to work in radio again.
He was fired by 'YSP in May 2008, after broadcasting a racist song, "Schwoogies," sung to the tune of Blondie's "Call Me," by an in-studio guest, Lady Gash.
Baseball won't stop Henri's ball
Despite the World Series, Henri David says he has sold more advance tickets than ever for his annual Halloween Ball, to be held at the Sheraton City Center (16th & Race). The host says Gov. Rendell, who never misses the bash, will be there in a party of 10. The game will be shown on a big screen in the lobby. Tickets are $25 for those in costume, or $60 for voyeurs, and available at the door starting at 9 p.m. Once again, the People Paper's Stu Bykofsky will judge.
Pete Rose back on air Friday
Pete Rose returns to 97.5 The Fanatic (aka ESPN 950-AM) tomorrow, when he'll guest-host noon to 2 alongside Dan Schwartzman. The banned baseball legend also did the show Tuesday.
Luke to get fiery with Fieri
Sandwich mogul Tony Luke Jr. will cook cheesesteaks onstage with Food Network star Guy Fieri Nov. 18, when Fieri brings his Road Show cooking tour to the Merriam Theater.
Movie matters
_ Harriton High grad Ben Belack appears in "Pushing 30," which got a great reception at the recent San Diego Film Festival. The movie co-stars Kali Hawk, now seen in "Couples Retreat." Belack moved to L.A. to pursue an acting career eight years ago, after graduating from San Diego State.

* Local screenwriter Adrienne Simpson
beat out nearly 100 other contestants in Hollywood's prestigious semi-annual Scriptapalooza TV-writing competition.
The Glassboro native won first place in the Reality Television category for her outline, "Virtuoso." Simpson was a producer on "Death Before Dishonor" in 2006, which is available on DVD.
Charitably minded
Amateur singers compete at Christian's Night Live from 7 to midnight tomorrow at Radnor Hunt (826 Providence) in Malvern to benefit Christian DeRiemer, a young man with muscular dystrophy. Judges include music-industry vets Phil Nicolo, Denny Somach, Derek Chapin, Jimmy Dilella, Dan Hunt, Mark Preston, Kevin Williams and TV host Linda Swain. Tix are $75, $25 for those under 21.
* Art created in August at the Plein Air at
Beaver Farm, an all-day marathon of
outdoor-landscape painting to benefit the Camp Hill Special School's Transition Program, will be on display Tuesday at the Rosenfeld Gallery (113 Arch). Artist Nancy Bea Miller organized the benefit, with 30 area artists painting. The gallery's open all day with a reception from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
Drexel dean on Peabody board
Allen Sabinson, dean of Drexel's Westphal College of Media Arts and Design, has been added to the board that selects winners of the prestigous George Foster Peabody Awards, presented annually by the University of Georgia's Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. Sabinson is former head of production at Miramax Films, and also worked a lot in television. Original broadcast, cablecast and webcast programs from 2009 are eligible. The entry deadline is Jan. 15.
