Radio veteran Denny Somach is staging an online auction of thousands of 45's by the Sex Pistols, Beatles and Rolling Stones and many rock, punk, new wave and reggae rarities through Sunday at BackstageAuctions.com. Many offerings are promotional singles. The Havertown-based radio producer will donate a portion of auction proceeds to the American Diabetes Association.
Kenny Gamble
helps playground
Philadelphia International Records mogul Kenny Gamble, chairman of Universal Companies, will help unveil a playground and community garden from 10 to noon today on the 1500 block of Catharine Street in South Philadelphia. Gamble and his wife, Faatimah, had the idea for the park, which philanthropist David Pincus; Rahim Islam, president of Universal; and the Universal Institute Charter School all helped see to fruition.
Paul Perrello picks up award
Metro Networks broadcaster and La Salle grad Paul Perrello won first place in the enterprising-reporting category of the New Jersey chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists' annual competition.
Perrello, an adjunct professor
at Rowan University, won for a
Studio 89.7 broadcast on Rowan
Radio in which he interviewed actor Hill Harper about his book
"Letters to a Young Sister." He
receives the award Sunday in a
ceremony in New Brunswick. *
