Dan Gross: Nutter: I paid that 17 bucks
Caramanico, board chair of the Friends of Independence National Historical Park, wrote in his group's newsletter that Nutter owed his group $17 from a January ceremony dedicating People's Plaza on Independence Mall. While Nutter spoke with Caramanico, who presented a $268,983 check to the Independence Visitor Center Corporation, Nutter said: "Tom, I'll give you the $17 and you make this check an even $269,000." Caramanico says he was looking forward to receiving the money, but Nutter told us it's already been paid, and he told Caramanico to make sure to clear that up in his next newsletter.
We caught up with Nutter in the atrium of City Hall where Philadelphia Style magazine celebrated its relaunch. Philadelphia Soul owner Jon Bon Jovi, who graces the mag's cover, was there briefly and snuck out avoiding reporters and photographers because one of his kids was singing somewhere, we were told. Local actor Jarrod Spector, who's on Broadway in "Jersey Boys," performed.
Also in attendance were NBC 10's
Glenn "Hurricane" Schwartz, Bill Henley and Dawn Timmeney; CBS 3's Doug Kammerer; Fox 29's Jennaphr Frederick; 102.9 WMGK's John DeBella; Chickie's & Pete's owner Pete Ciarrocchi, and attorney Chuck Peruto. So was Dana Spain-Smith, who sold the magazine to New Yorker Jason Binn's Niche Media in February. Binn looks forward to promoting more events in the city.
Nutter had earlier been at a fundraiser for Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown. State Sen. Vincent Hughes and state Rep. Tony Payton Jr. were part of the event, hosted by radio DJ Doug Henderson Jr.
Out and about
Actress Parker Posey and CBS 3 anchor Larry Mendte were spotted shopping at Barnes & Noble on Rittenhouse Square Saturday afternoon. Separately.
She's in town shooting "Happy Tears," with Demi Moore.
Moore's husband, Ashton Kutcher, brought two of her daughters, Scout and Tallulah Willis, to the Continental (2nd & Market) for a quick dinner Friday night. Wired 96.5's G-N Kang, who was also at the restaurant, reports Kutcher was "taller than expected and hot." Fortunately, she controlled herself when the urge to "attack Ashton and lick his face" came over her. Moore and daughter Rumer weren't there.
_ Iron Chef Masuhara Morimoto signed bottles of his Domaine de Canton ginger liquor presented as gifts for guests of a launch dinner at Morimoto (723 Chestnut) the other night.
_ Mayor Nutter, wife Lisa and daughter Olivia were among those covered in confetti from a clown cannon at Thursday's opening performance of Cirque du Soleil's "Kooza," which runs through June 15 at Broad and Washington. Restaurateur Stephen Starr, former CBS 3 anchor Alycia Lane and Q102 boyfriend Chris Booker were also among guests at the evening of aerialist and acrobatic amazement, as were NBC 10's Bill Henley, CN8's Greg Coy, 6ABC's Tamala Edwards, jeweler Henri David,
WXPN DJ Robert Drake, and 610 WIP's Big Daddy Graham.
_ Shaun Morgan of Seether sang the band's "Fake It" Thursday night with The Interns, at Finnigan's Wake, where the singer stopped with friends after his band played the Electric Factory.
Judge pleas for his house to sell
Noting the difficulties moving real estate these days, Family Court Judge Dan Anders e-mailed friends and colleagues Friday to advertise an online link to his 5-bedroom, 3 1/2-bath Victorian for sale in East Falls. Asking price is $425,000.
Wilson leaves gifts for eateries
"Tenure" producer Brendan McDonald dropped off two scripts signed by Luke Wilson, writer/director Mike Million and the rest of his cast for Kim Strengari and Marianne Gere, owners of the Gypsy Saloon (128 Ford), and Stella Blu (101 Ford) in West Conshohocken. They hosted Wilson several times as the film shot in the area and also arranged for him to golf on area links. Wilson and a few buddies left the Continental Midtown (18th & Chestnut) late Saturday night, asking the hostess for directions somewhere and headed west along Chestnut Street.
Owen Wilson here this week
Owen Wilson will be in the Inqwaster newsroom Thursday shooting a scene for "Marley & Me," based on the best-seller by the paper's former columnist John Grogan, about his incorrigible but lovable dog. Jennifer Aniston, who plays Grogan/Wilson's wife, isn't in the newsroom scenes. *
