Dan Gross: Greta Van Susteren rips Bochetto warning on Aruba tourism
Van Susteren mocked the letter on her program Friday night, begging Bochetto to sue her. "Bring it on," she said, adding: "I will waive all requirements, because I want to get all of these people under oath and depositions."
Other panelists on the show, including attorneys Bernie Grimm and Ted Williams, also ridiculed Bochetto's letter.
Local guy John Pauly, a former TV producer/reporter, is the media adviser to the Aruba chief prosecutor's office. He says Van Susteren "completely distorted the letter to make herself look macho," and once again distorted the story, which is "the very thing the letter was trying to remedy."
Out and about
John Street was typing away on his BlackBerry for most of the Saturday matinee of "My Fair Lady" at the Academy of Music. Street and wife Naomi Post-Street sat in the second-to-last row of the theater, the nosebleed seats. A few showgoers said hello at intermission to the former-mayor-turned-Temple professor. * Mario, the R&B singer who
debuted on "Dancing with the Stars" last night, was in town over the weekend and dined at Pearl (1904 Chestnut) in an upstairs room. There his hungry bodyguard ate almost every entree on the dinner menu. Mario's hit "Let Me Love You" was produced by Philly guys Scott Storch, now of Miami, and Kam Houff. Mario's new single, "Crying out for Me," is No. 5 on Billboard's R&B chart.
* Eagles tight end Brent Celek
and a girlfriend had a romantic dinner at Davio's (111 S. 17th) Sunday - cheesesteak spring rolls, filets and asparagus.
Blavat in Fla. to work, not retire
Just a few weeks after having heart surgery, Jerry Blavat worked the Seminole Hard Rock, in Hollywood, Fla., over the weekend with Frankie Avalon and Connie Francis. Also there was writer Jason Fagone, who's profiling "The Geator" for an upcoming Philadelphia magazine story. The Geator is bringing Avalon and Francis into Atlantic City for a show at the Hilton this summer. Blavat also caught up with legendary South Philly singer Al Martino at Modo Mio (2nd & Girard).
Bowl with Big Brothers, Sisters
Mayor Nutter and former Phillies hurler Mitch "Wild Thing" Williams will be part of a Big Brothers Big Sisters fundraiser at Lucky Strike (1336 Chestnut) Wednesday. Nutter will appear and bowl at about 12:30 p.m. at the Bowl for Kids' Sake event, and Williams, now with 610 WIP and the Big Talker 1210-AM, is scheduled to bowl at about 5:30. Mayor Nutter yesterday said he couldn't remember his high score, but it's estimated between 130 and 140.
All are welcome to bowl, but those interested must register in advance at phillybowlforkids.org.
Golden Girl and A.I. to reunite
Power 99's Golden Girl recently included a chapter in her book "Sex and Celebrities: The Truth, The Whole Truth, The Naked Truth" raving about Allen Iverson's sexual prowess. Tomorrow night she'll host a Welcome Back to Philly party at Club Solo (520 N. Columbus) for the Answer, who is in town with the Nuggets to play the 76ers.
