Best Find: Leonardo's Italian Bakery & Deli

What we like: Tomato pie and potato pie.

What it offers: The Southampton shop is full of homemade Italian goodies, sweet and savory. There are soups, salads, panini sandwiches, cheeses, tiramisu, tarts, cookies, and breads made daily in the bakery.

Leonardo's is known for its tomato and vegetable pies. The tomato is a spicy mash of plum tomatoes atop a dough tasty enough to be eaten solo with just butter. The potato pie is topped with thin slices of potato that add heartiness to the layer of mozzarella, onions, and a sprinkle of rosemary.

The homemade bread is a crusty concoction that is soft and airy inside.

Filomena Affatato, husband Angelo, and mother Elena Sementino operate Leonardo's, a four-month-old branch of the original bakery, which was founded in Northeast Philadelphia in 1995. The original bakery was organized by Filomena's father, Leonardo, who had operated a bakery for many years in the Puglia region of Italy.

In 1992, Filomena Affatato moved to the United States. Several years later, her father came for a visit and the idea for a bakery took root. Leonardo Sementino died six years ago.
