Local quilters win prizes

at Peddler's Village

Sixteen quilters won more than $1,500 in prize money in this year's Peddler's Village quilt competition.

More than 60 handmade quilts were entered in the annual contest, which crowned winners in seven categories: potluck, Amish, traditional, creative, applique, clothing and student.

Winners were Elizabeth Zanghi for "Crazy Quilted Heart Christmas Tree Skirt"; Sandra Annussek for "Amish Tree of Life"; Lorraine Broomall for "Colorblock"; Beatrice Tannenbaum for "Fantasy"; Ruth Woolcock for "Untitled"; Bonnie Waetzman for "Asymmetric Vest and Skirt"; and Pennridge High School (teacher Megan Reim) for 10 quilts donated to Quilts for Kids.

The quilts are on display at the Gazebo, near the waterwheel on the village green, through April 1.

Peddler's Village is at Route 202 and Street Road in Lahaska. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Museum to commemorate

Michener centennial

The centennial of writer James A. Michener will be celebrated with a special exhibition beginning in March at the Michener Art Museum in Doylestown.

"James A. Michener: Traveler/Citizen/Writer" will explore the writer's life as it fulfilled the three words Michener chose for his epitaph. The exhibit will be curated by Stephen J. May, author of Michener: A Writer's Journey.

The show will use photographs, objects and paintings from the museum collection, including original artwork by the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of more than 40 books.
