High school football games to watch

by the Daily News

TED SILARY ON CITY LEAGUES

Public AAAA Final

Washington at Northeast

Tomorrow, 1 o'clock

Don't expect a repeat of last year's three-OT all-timer, won by Washington. That'd be unrealistic. This should still be a goodie, though.

Catholic AAAA Semifinal

O'Hara vs. La Salle

Tomorrow, 7 o'clock,

at Plymouth-Whitemarsh

These teams met just last week, with La Salle triumphing. Lots of talent on both squads. Offensive fireworks, anyone?

Inter-Ac League

Chestnut Hill Academy

at Malvern Prep

Tomorrow, 1:30 p.m.

The visitors, already assured of a tie in the standings, will look to finish 10-0 overall and make sure their first title is outright. If Malvern wins, this scenario is almost a certainty - half the league wins the crown (CHA, MP, Haverford School).

MICHAEL RADANO

ON SOUTH JERSEY

Seneca at Burlington Township

Tomorrow, 1 p.m.

The Golden Eagles have several quality wins but Township is coming off its best win of the season, a thrilling, 38-30 win at Timber Creek.

Willingboro at Haddonfield

Tonight, 7 o'clock

Willingboro is only 5-3, but has not been blown out in any game this season. The Chimeras are a big threat to Haddonfield, which has only a loss to West Deptford on its docket, but has yet to face the day-in and day-out battles in the Colonial Conference that Willingboro has faced in the Burlco/Olympic.

Shawnee vs. Egg Harbor Twp.

at St. Augustine Prep

Tomorrow, 1 p.m.

Egg Harbor is coming off its biggest win of the season and will have to get its engines revved back up for Shawnee. Shawnee hasn't been perfect, but presents several challenges to the Eagles because of their style, size and ability to handle EHT's sheer athleticism.

JOSEPH SANTOLIQUITO

ON DELAWARE COUNTY

Penncrest at Garnet Valley

Tonight, 7 o'clock

Six Delco teams have made the PIAA District 1 playoffs this weekend, but this Class AAAA clash between Central League rivals is the most compelling. Penncrest lost, 28-27, to Garnet Valley (9-1), on Sept. 25 when it had an extra point blocked and lost a fumble at midfield in the fourth quarter, when it appeared the Lions had the game won. Penncrest (7-3) is averaging 41.9 points a game, while Garnet Valley's defense is giving up 12.7 points a game. Penncrest will rely heavily on tailback Jerry Boyer and quarterback Matt Atkinson, who's averaging a ridiculous 199 yards a game in total offense. Garnet Valley's Ryan Woods won the last game with the blocked extra-point attempt and came back to catch a 49-yard touchdown pass from Mark McHugh with 2:25 left in the game.
