Jury picked for man accused of cop's murder
Prosecutors and defense lawyers this afternoon agreed upon the 12th juror who will hear the murder trial of John “Jordan” Lewis, accused of murdering Philadelphia Police officer Chuck Cassidy during an Oct 31, 2007 robbery.
The jury selection process began Wednesday and consisted of the lawyers interviewing several hundred potential jurors. Many were released because they were opposed to the death penalty, which the commonwealth attorneys are seeking against Lewis, 23. The lawyers still must select up to six alternate jurors. Opening arguments are scheduled to begin Thursday and the trial could take three weeks, according to Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey Minehart.
