CW recycles ‘Melrose Place’

Everything old is new again at the CW.

Following up on its next-generation "90210," the fifth broadcast network today announced a five-day schedule for 2009-2010 that will pair that remake with a new version of "Melrose Place."

Like "90210," which has included "Beverly Hills, 90210" alums Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty, the new series will take at least two characters from the old, with Laura Leighton signed on to play Sydney Andrews and Thomas Calabro Dr. Michael Mancini.

And speaking of old, Thursdays will match "The Vampire Diaries," based on the best-selling book series, with the returning "Supernatural." ("Smallville" moves to Fridays.)

(Because it's OK to be old on the CW, but not so good to look old.)

Also added: "The Beautiful Life," a scripted drama from Ashton Kutcher that will follow "America's Next Top Model" on Wednesdays and looks at the behind-the-scenes lives of models, starring, among others,"The O.C.'s" Mischa Barton and supermodel Elle McPherson.

"Everbody Hates Chris," "The Game" and "Privileged" were canceled, and the network apparently chose to pass on a proposed spinoff of "Gossip Girl" that would have been set in the '80s.

Also missing from the network's schedule: Sundays, no doubt because few viewers had even realized the CW had a Sunday schedule.
